Description

March 21 & 22 - 2-days, 2pm-5pm (second day likely will be shorter)

Professor Vanda Lavar presents this two-day lesson in Botanical Illustration taught classically, with a herbarium page to accompany the watercolor illustration. This workshop is systematically constructed for both the novice and the advanced student. The Echinacea flower provides a subject matter which easily translates into participant success. During the first part of the workshop, students will begin their understudies in graphite (pencil) on watercolor paper which later they can incorporate into their Herbarium Journal. The instructor will provide the live Echinacea Flower for drawing. Drawing templates are also provided to help the less experienced participants. Subject matter will also include how to dry and mount their specimens on the herbarium page tandem to their artwork page. Participants will also have the choice of their final painting being rendered in watercolor w/ pen and ink, or watercolor alone. Participants will also design their own pages according to their personal choice of illustrations and complex design. The workshop covers an in-depth exploration of perspective as applied to the plant kingdom, which enables students to draw more freely and accurately in their field studies when sketching solo. The apex of this class will provide the student with a herbarium page, and another page that features their own beautiful, watercolor illustration. The artistic statement of your work produces a timeless treasure to be shared with friends and family that will help preserve and support our natural world. All supplies are included. Ages 15+ welcome. Meeting location Coloma. Cost: $175/members, $185/non-members. A detailed email will be sent once you register online at REGISTRATION LINK
