February 16, 2025: No Kenzan Arrangements Using Bark
The challenge of a “No Kenzan” arrangement in a Suiban (low, flat container), is how to “fix” the main branches. In this lesson, we will vary the challenge by using strips of bark for our main composition. Balancing the pieces so that they are stable in your Suiban can be exciting and emphasizes the beauty of the water without using a “Kenzan” (Japanese pin frog). Techniques, such as using wire, sewing pins, and nails will be offered. Bring a Suiban, any bark that you may have discovered in your yard or park. Flowers, wire, pins and bark will be provided.
