January 12, 2025: Sogetsu New Years Arrangements

Making a special arrangement for New Years is a happy occasion! The leading materials are pine, bamboo and Japanese Plum, but other varieties of flowers are also used. Each material should harmonize and compliment the others, as well as expressing the joy, hope and best wishes for the new year. Select a container which will fit into the space you are contemplating, either a Suiban, (low, flat) with a kenzan, or a Nageiri (tall, cylindrical) style will work. A Mizuhiki (celebratory decoration) is often added to further express the brightness of the celebration.  These arrangements make very special gifts for friends and family. Bring a container of your choice. Flowers, branches and Mizuhiki will be provided.
